Works on Hawick’s £44m flood protection scheme have been halted for the forseeable future.

That decision, announced today, is in light of the government restrictions put in place country-wide this week in a bid to halt the spread of the coronavirus.

As a result of works being halted the planned nine-month closure of a section of Commercial Road, due to begin last Tuesday was also cancelled.
