AROUND 80 school pupils from Selkirk and Galashiels gathered in the Victoria Halls on Friday to display their Scottish country dancing talents.
The occasion was a junior ball to celebrate St Andrew’s night and participants, all of whom attend classes, had a wonderful time in a real ceilidh atmosphere.

Many brought family members to join in the fun, while the participants were assisted by their dance teachers

The dances were called by Raymond Handyside and Julia Sharp from Innerleithen, joint chairs of the Borders branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society. Music was provided by Tommy Pringle and refreshments by the Selkirk Children’s Country Dance Club.

The evening passed all too quickly with everyone declaring it a great success. The standard displayed by the youngsters, aged from six to 12, showed clearly that the spirit and tradition of Scottish country dancing is in good hands for the future.

Thanks are also due to Cathy Marr, Maisie Coyne and Nancy Mitchison for all their hard work.
